Housing is one of the most basic human rights. Yet 134 million people in Latin America are homeless due to natural disasters, political violence, or simply a lack of financial resources.
Those fortunate enough to live in their own home often live in poorly constructed structures that are not resistant to harsh weather conditions and/or lack basic infrastructure like sewage or electricity.
Moreover, due to rural and urban migration patterns, as well as population growth, population density in urban neighborhoods has increased dramatically. This growth places additional pressure on already scarce housing resources.
Our partners in Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Peru, and Venezuela are helping needy families build simple but dignified homes. They manufacture housing modules built of indigenous materials, cement slabs, metal, wood, and tile, which are both sturdy and attractive. Most importantly, apart from being transportable, these prefabricated constructions are easily expandable as the families’ economic situation improves. Housing programs comprise:
• Prefabricated housing production • Home financing • Sewage management • Sidewalk construction • Community development support
