O.E.F. de El Salvador

La Asociación para la Organización y Educación Empresarial Femenina de El Salvador (O.E.F. de El Salvador) promotes integral development, empowering families, particularly women and children, to participate in social, economic and political life, so that they can become active participants in local and national development.

OEF’s programs are guided by an overarching strategic framework. OEF accompanies more than 10,000 families in low-income rural and urban areas in seven departments of El Salvador. These families participate in and benefit from different services ranging from early childhood education to support for microenterprises as well as business training, health services, reproductive health education for adolescents, programs for-risk youth and support for formal education.

Among its strategic activities, OEF has worked on responsible fatherhood, raising awareness about gender equity and the prevention of violence.

OEF’s main projects include:

  • Early Childhood Stimulation (CEDI’s): Provide early childhood education to boys and girls between 3 and 7 years of age to prepare them to enter school and successfully remain there.
  • Tutoring and Educational Reinforcement: This guarantees that at-risk children and youth stay in school instead of entering the workforce.
  • Community Health: Primary healthcare for women of childbearing age and children under 5 years of age in rural communities in the department of Chalatenango.
  • Loan Services: Each year, OEF provide 857 loans – 72% of which are to women – in 12 departments in the country to strengthen the microenterprise sector and facilitate access to financial services.
  • Professional Training Courses: Each year, OEF trains more than 15,000 youth – young women and men – in breadmaking, baking, cooking, cosmetology, and electrical installation, among other specialties, to improve their qualifications for employment, entry into the labor market and self-employment.
  • Don Pablito Tesák Service Center: Located in the city of San Vicente, this facility has an auditorium for holding training sessions and cultural events, 28 hotel rooms and a restaurant. The funds generated with these services are invested back into funding OEF’s projects.
  • Farm School: Operates in the city of San Vicente, it trains women and youth on how to produce non-traditional crops using environmentally-friendly agricultural techniques. These crops do not require large pieces of land to grow, allowing for their replication in the community setting.
