The H200PS Fund
The H200PS Fund, pronounced “hoops”, was formed with The Resource Foundation to fund the development of clean water technologies and the construction of water treatment plants in Guatemala and Honduras.

Mission

H200PS’ mission is to first and foremost draw attention to the most preventable and unnecessary human suffering on our planet: the need for clean water. H200PS parlays the awareness into action by raising funds for the development of clean water technologies and the construction of water treatment plants. To accomplish this goal,
H200PS uses sport as a vehicle to draw awareness and generate attention to this issue, while offering a long term solution to people in need of clean water.

H200PS 5 Areas of Focus

Hope: The water-borne diseases can be prevented; all it takes is others getting involved. Providing people with access to clean water isn’t just about water, it’s about improving people’s lives! Investment in clean water initiatives contributes to economic growth. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that for each $1 invested in clean water technology, returns of $3-$34 are generated, depending on the region and technology.(1)

Obligation: We as humans are obligated to take part in the relief of other human’s unnecessary suffering. If you were born into a fortunate situation, this doesn’t make you any better than the person born into a less fortunate situation…just luckier. Being lucky, you have so many resources at your fingertips. Let’s use those resources to make a better world!

On-Site Empowerment: Handouts are not the answer. By providing people with the correct tools and education, their communities are empowered by long term, self-sustaining methods of clean water.

Progress: In the past 20 years, the amount of people who don’t have access to clean water has decreased from 22% to 17%.(2) With today’s technology, the ability to bring clean water solutions to people is becoming more and more feasible and cost effective.

Sports: The social impact of sport, specifically basketball, is far-reaching. Through the use of camps, clinics and competitions, sports help educate and raise awareness for the issue of clean water. The first step is awareness, and sports offer a global platform for our voices to be heard! In the future, H200PS intends to hold clinics in Guatemala and Honduras to teach children the importance of hygiene and water in an open and fun environment.

How H200PS Works:

The H200PS Fund raises funds for the organizations AguaClara and Agua Para el Pueblo. AguaClara is a Cornell based research and development program that aims at improving clean water technologies. Agua Para el Pueblo (APP) is a Honduras-based nonprofit organization that constructs AguaClara’s water treatment plants. The construction of these plants is engineered with the help of AguaClara and APP, but it is the people in the affected communities that do the work and continued maintenance of the water treatment plants. H200PS’ funding to AguaClara and APP helps provide financial and engineering capabilities to construct the plants. The focus is not to provide a handout, rather empower people with long term, sustainable solutions for their clean water needs.
