David B. Roosevelt, Director of Development
David Roosevelt joined The Resource Foundation as Development Director in January 2010.  In this capacity he will work with board and staff to develop strategies to strengthen our current donor/partner relationships, and to mobilize new donor and partner resources for our affiliate and associate organizations throughout the Caribbean and Latin America.

Prior to joining The Resource Foundation, David provided consulting services to several European foundations and NGOs from his base in Lugano, Switzerland.  He brings over forty years experience in the philanthropic sector, having served as President & CEO of two U.S. community foundations, interim CEO for an international foundation, senior officer of the endowment management unit of a major New York bank, and with a large Washington, DC-based economic policy research organization.  He was also a senior advisor to the United Nations World Food Programme.  He has been on the boards of more than thirty nonprofit organizations (local, national, and international), and has held membership on several community foundation leadership committees at the Council on Foundations, among other professional affiliations.  He received two presidential appointments, by President George H.W. Bush and President William J. Clinton, to the federal Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial Commission, and another at the recommendation of President Clinton to the National Board of the AmeriCorps’ National Civilian Community Corps.

David’s undergraduate work was completed in history, with post-graduate work in business management.  In addition, he has completed numerous professional courses in philanthropic and nonprofit management.  He is a frequent lecturer and public speaker, has written a critically acclaimed book (Grandmere: A Personal History of Eleanor Roosevelt, Warner Books), and has been a periodic lecturer on topics relating to philanthropic management at three colleges/universities.
