Humanitarian Alert: Floods and Landslides in Colombia |
|
According to the United Nation’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), 88% of Colombia has been affected by floods and landslides since April 2010. It is estimated that more than 3 million people have been affected by the heavy flooding, resulting in loss of their personal belongings and lack of access to clean water and proper sanitation. This disaster has damaged agricultural land, infrastructure and highways in 28 out of Colombia’s 32 departments. In some areas, the situation has been complicated by violence and internal displacement related to Colombia’s long-standing internal armed conflict.
