Sebastián's Story

origensebastian.jpg

Sebastián Farías is an 18 year old student at the Pirque Agroecological School (EAP) in Chile, which is managed by Fundación Origen, an affiliated organization of The Resource Foundation.

Like many youth attending the school, Sebastián works part-time in tourism and in a nearby restaurant to help support his large family.

Sebastián’s story is similar to those of many other students who want to help improve the quality of life for their families. He hopes for a future with more opportunities, and wants to make the most out of his studies in order to help himself, his family, and his community. This motivation drove him to actively participate in Origen’s health and environmental education program.

Through this program, Sebastián has learned about renewable energy, eco-friendly farming, healthy eating habits, and the importance of caring for the environment. Now, Sebastián has a place to realize his dreams — on his family's three hectares of farmland where he is building a small farming business.

“I like what I do and what I have learned, and I hope to learn so much more.” Sebastián says, “Now I feel empowered and want to do many things. You have to plant the seeds to harvest later, and right now I’m still just planting the seeds.”
